MFN’s GOFCC SECURES MAJOR INVESTMENT THROUGH 2030
Child care professionals are not the only ones who recognize the value of MFN’s Growing Opportunities for Family Child Care (GOFCC) program. This year, legislators and the Administration have joined them. In partnership with the Child Care Resource Network, GOFCC supports aspiring family child care providers as they become licensed, build sustainable businesses, and open programs where care is needed most.
This legislative session marked a major victory for the program and for Maryland families. Working with partners, MFN helped secure $450,000 in Fiscal Year 2027 funding for GOFCC. Newly passed legislation mandates that this appropriation continue through FY 2030. Lead sponsors of the bill were Del. Jared Solomon and Sen. Nancy King.
At legislative hearings, MFN and our partners highlighted the program’s impressive impact: from 2022 through the end of 2025, GOFCC helped open 278 new family child care programs, creating 1,957 new child care slots statewide. Of those, 443 slots serve infants and toddlers — the age group where care is often hardest to find. Just as importantly, 93% of GOFCC programs remain in business, underscoring the program’s focus on long-term sustainability for child care professionals and the families they serve.
By combining licensing support, practical coaching, and quality improvement assistance, GOFCC is strengthening Maryland’s child care infrastructure, one educator at a time. Likewise, by making a long-term investment in GOFCC’s success, the Maryland legislature is helping expand the child care supply where it is needed most.
